The Homer’s Heroes division is for boys and girls with physical or intellectual disabilities, ages 5 to 17. In 2022, 80 players participated in the program. Six weeks of games are played starting the first Saturday of June. Volunteer “Buddies” encourage and assist each player during the game. One game is played at Haymarket Park with the Lincoln Saltdogs players. Homer’s Heroes was established in 1992. Shirts and awards are furnished by a local business. Fun Day In The Park is a fun and exciting new event has been coined to target JOI and College Club members, working with adult Optimist club members. The event will further facilities camaraderie between JOI, College Club members, adult Optimist members, and the community at large, while providing an avenue for meaningful interaction and care for children with differing abilities by our Optimist members at all levels. This is undoubtedly the core function of an event of this stature and, in essence, it is a fun way of sharing our philosophy of Optimism to a wider cross section of the children we serve globally.
